Gap Inc.

November 20, 2009

Gap and Old Navy, and our other Gap Inc. brands, have always been inclusive, accessible brands in which everyone can participate and we embrace diversity across all of our customers, and more importantly respect their beliefs as individuals.

Reflecting this long-held philosophy, on November 12th, 2009, Gap launched its holiday marketing campaign, airing the first Gap Holiday TV commercial in three years. The Gap marketing campaign has been in development over the past several months and includes the use of Christmas in its commercials – clearly stating “Go, Christmas.”

On November 28th, Old Navy will unveil its latest holiday commercial, which has also been under development for some time.  The ad prominently focuses on Christmas, with the Supermodelquins proudly cheering “Merry Christmas” and features Christmas trees, lights, and ornaments throughout.

The American Family Association (AFA) has embarked upon a lengthy misinformation campaign against Gap Inc., including a boycott, based upon erroneous information that the company does not respect the Christmas holiday.

Our brands also encourage our store associates to acknowledge, as appropriate, our customers that celebrate the joys of the Christmas season. At the same time, we recognize and fully appreciate that many of our customers celebrate different holidays around this time and so we focus our marketing on the joys of the holiday season as a whole.
