About Gap Inc.

At Gap Inc., we create culture as much as we create clothes. Our ambition is to become a high-performing house of iconic American brands that shape culture.

Our portfolio—Old Navy, Gap, Banana Republic, and Athleta—each brings a distinct point of view to how we show up in the world and serve our customers.

Old Navy democratizes style with quality and value for all. Gap champions originality through essential pieces that celebrate individuality. Banana Republic is rooted in a spirit of discovery, creating modern pieces inspired by craftsmanship and travel. Athleta champions the Power of She through confidence, strength, and movement.

We’re driven by a shared purpose: to bridge gaps—between people, perspectives, and possibilities—to create a better world.

We’re building a team that performs at a high level—people who think boldly, take ownership, and turn ideas into impact. If you’re ready to learn fast and help shape what’s next, you’ll fit right in.

About the Role

We are seeking a dynamic, agile-minded data scientist to help shape a new era of customer-led digital performance and experimentation across Gap Inc. brands. As part of the Brand Data Science team, you’ll join a group of creative, business-minded data scientists who combine analytical rigor, technical depth, and executive storytelling to drive meaningful impact.

Your curiosity about customer behavior will compel you to frame multiple hypotheses, structure ambiguous problems, and uncover insights across complex customer journeys. You are equally comfortable working with large-scale clickstream data, complex customer identity spaces and translating findings into clear, compelling narratives that influence product and business decisions. You understand that impact comes from pairing data with sound judgment, business context, and the ability to present findings with clarity.

In this role, you will focus primarily on digital product analytics and experimentation, analyzing the end-to-end digital funnel, drive traffic insights and measurable improvements in conversion and customer experience. You’ll also contribute to broader testing efforts across site, marketing and store experiences for a single Brand in the Gap Inc portfolio.

What You'll Do

  • Lead digital product analytics for a portfolio Brand: Analyze the digital customer journey (entry → browse → cart → checkout) to identify friction points and opportunities to improve conversion and engagement.
  • Build and deliver reporting using Adobe Customer Journey Analytics: Develop scalable, brand-facing dashboards and analyses, leveraging CJA alongside backend SQL data sources.
  • Work deeply with clickstream and identity data: Analyze large-scale behavioral datasets to understand customer journeys across online and offline behavior.
  • Design and evaluate experiments: Generate hypotheses, support A/B and causal test design, and execute rigorous measurement to understand drivers of KPI movement.
  • Synthesize and communicate insights: Independently translate complex analyses into clear storylines and executive-ready visuals that drive action.
  • Ensure measurement quality: Partner with engineering and analytics teams to validate tracking, instrumentation, and experiment setup.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally: Work closely with Product, Marketing, eCommerce, Finance, Store Operations, and Engineering teams to inform decisions and prioritize opportunities.
  • Support broader experimentation efforts: Contribute to testing strategies across marketing campaigns and targeted store initiatives when needed.

Who You Are

  • 2–4 years of experience in data science, product analytics, or digital analytics, or equivalent experience
  • Strong statistical foundation (hypothesis testing, regression, experimental design)
  • Hands-on experience with Adobe Customer Journey Analytics strongly preferred
  • Proficiency in SQL and Python
  • Hands-on experience with clickstream or event-level data
  • Experience analyzing A/B tests and communicating results to stakeholders
  • Ability to synthesize analysis into clear, executive-level narratives
  • Comfortable operating in a fast-paced, cross-functional environment
  • Advanced degree in Math, Statistics, Economics, Computer Science, or other quantitative fields strongly preferred
  • Experience in Retail industry strongly preferred
  • Experience with data visualization tools preferred (PowerBI,Tableau, Looker, etc.)

Benefits at Gap Inc.

  • Merchandise discount for our brands: 50% off regular-priced merchandise at Old Navy, Gap, Banana Republic and Athleta, and 30% off at Outlet for all employees.
