About the role
We’re looking for a Sr. Manager of Product Development for Athleta to successfully oversee multiple product track development projects at all stages through initial concepting to the start of production. In this role, you’ll lead a team of product engineers and in-season specialists through the creation and commercialization of performance product and communication of product functionality, costing, aesthetic and sourcing strategy. You will collaborate and influence cross-functional partners in Design, Fabric R&D and Technical Design.
WHAT YOU’LL DO
What you'll do
Leads the product development process from concept through to production-ready hand-off, ensuring both fit and technical engineering meets or exceeds expectation.
Ensures team is delivering to key functional responsibilities including:
Developing BOMs in support of tech pack creation
Evaluating all samples (Proto, photo samples, pre-production) for correct construction
Engineering product within strategic costing direction and providing solutions to aid the costing process in conjunction with Costing Engineers and GIS to ensure quality and costing parameters are met.
Drive team towards 100% category buy ready product and risk assessment management
Manages product through appropriate time and action to ensure all deliverables are being met
Partners with Designers and Fit Specialists to understand fit intent and aesthetic ensuring translation into proto/ sample with consistency
Provide insight and guidance to GIS and Fit Specialists team leads and collaborate on construction, production or cost engineering solutions
Partner with merchant, planning and GIS partners to translate Long Range Plan (LRP) into sourcing strategy
Develop sourcing strategy allocation logic with GIS partners
Provide oversight of cost direction based on line plan and product briefs provided by cross-functional team
Review capacity and commitments in partnership with Production Operations Lead
Ensure fabric MOU commitments are maintained and provide high level direction to leadership on status
Lead liability utilization strategy
Responsive product toolbox in alignment with Operations Lead
Mentor and coach team of 4-8 members to achieve business and career goals
Who you are
10+ years experience in Technical Design/Product Development in performance-based company
3-5 years experience in leading Product Development teams
Passionate about leading and driving a team to create innovative premium performance products
Demonstrates superior interpersonal skills, including the ability to create trust with cross functional teams
Able to proactively troubleshoot and solve highly complex problems
Strong technical knowledge of performance product and fit (materials/fabric, construction, and body movement)
Demonstrates an advanced knowledge of technical construction expertise, cost engineering and knowledge of manufacturing processes.
Knowledge of product creation calendar timelines and able to work against deadlines
Traveled to and worked with manufacturers across Asia, Americas, and Europe
Proficiency in MS office (Excel/Word/Outlook), Adobe Illustrator, PLM software
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
High attention to detail, data accuracy and prioritization
