Curtis Pinkerton’s personal and professional epiphanies happened at the same moment in 2005 when he was a General Manager at Banana Republic in New Orleans, post Hurricane Katrina. “As I looked for ways to help, I realized I could personally create real change and support building stronger communities.”, Curtis says.

With the support of his District Manager, Curtis spearheaded the district’s volunteer efforts during his time as a General Manager. His passion paved the way to his current role as Senior Field Community Leader for Old Navy in North America and Mexico. His dedication positively impacts the communities surrounding our stores through non-profits such as the Boys & Girls Clubs of America. A key pillar to Old Navy’s brand is the affirmation, family extends beyond DNA.

“This work sparks on what our founders Don and Doris Fisher envisioned for the company, which was to do more than just sell clothes,” he says. “We can work together to do something bigger outside of our stores and in our communities.”

The Fishers knew that doing good is good for business. When our communities thrive, so does the company. And when our teams work together on volunteer projects outside the store, we get to know one another better, build new skills and make a real difference in the places where we and our customers live and work.

Giving back is so baked into the company’s DNA that the company not only operates the Gap Foundation to support nonprofits around the world, but also boosts employees’ donations of time and money in three ways:

Making a match
After you’ve been with the company for one year, Gap Inc. matches all employee donations of $25 or more to eligible nonprofits, up to each employee’s annual limit

Turning time into money
When an employee spends 15 hours (in a year) volunteering at an eligible nonprofit, Gap Inc. will donate $150 to that organization.

Giving time to give time
Exempt salaried employees can participate in the Take 5 program, which allows them to take up to five on-the-clock hours every month to volunteer.
