About the Role

As Director of Portfolio Finance, you will be a strategic leader within Gap Inc.’s Tech Portfolio Management organization, overseeing financial performance and driving key forecasting processes for a complex, multi-brand technology portfolio.

You’ll lead a global team across FP&A, Resource Planning, and Governance Operations & Support (GOS), ensuring accurate monthly close of portfolio actuals and building forward-looking forecasts in tight partnership with Technical Program Managers (TPMs). Approximately 70% of this role is rooted in financial rigor—forecasting, reporting, and cost governance—while 30% requires strategic and programmatic insight to connect finance with operational execution. Familiarity with tools like Clarity is highly valued, along with the ability to operate seamlessly in both finance and technology environments.

What You'll Do

  • Own monthly portfolio financial close—ensuring completeness, accuracy, and reconciliation of actuals across all tech programs.
  • Drive rolling forecasts in collaboration with TPMs, helping them translate delivery plans, staffing shifts, and execution risks into clear financial projections.
  • Partner with TPMs to embed finance into portfolio operations, helping teams manage budgets, understand financial levers, and align delivery with financial outcomes.
  • Analyze key variances across forecast, budget, and actuals; highlight trends, risks, and cost optimization opportunities for leadership.
  • Deliver portfolio-level reporting and dashboards to senior leadership, providing transparency into financial performance, resource usage, and delivery alignment.
  • Ensure compliance with capitalization policies and support appropriate financial treatment of tech investments.
  • Lead financial input into executive presentations, investment reviews, and strategic prioritization efforts.
  • Support the GOS team in streamlining reporting processes and reducing administrative overhead for TPMs and engineering.
  • Manage and mentor a global team of 10+ finance professionals and contractors, building a culture of accountability, agility, and partnership.

Who You Are

  • 12+ years of experience in corporate finance, FP&A, strategy, or consulting—preferably within tech or retail.
  • Proven track record of leading monthly close and forecast cycles for large portfolios or program-based organizations.
  • Strong business acumen with a deep understanding of how financials connect to operational decisions and delivery risk.
  • Comfortable working in fast-paced environments with multiple stakeholders and shifting priorities.
  • Confident working with Technical Program Managers and Engineering leaders—translating execution plans into financial impact.
  • Skilled in financial modeling, variance analysis, and executive reporting.
  • Familiar with capital planning, accounting principles, and portfolio tools (e.g., Clarity, Anaplan, or similar).
  • Strong communicator who can distill complex financial topics into actionable insights for technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Experienced in managing global teams and cross-functional collaboration.
