About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled data governance subject matter expert with a strong background in finance to join our enterprise data governance team at Gap Inc. In this role, you will be responsible for prioritization of the business value use cases and enablement of data driven insights/decisions. Strong ability to influence stakeholders and setting priorities is required. You are expected to collaborate closely with business, product management and technology teams to drive data as a product, ensuring data consistency and integrity. You will have a deep understanding of the data ecosystem, including metadata management, data quality standards, data governance strategies and financial hierarchy structure. The ideal candidate should be able to influence business for successful change management and operationalization of data governance.

What You'll Do

  • Articulate, interpret and apply the principles of overall data strategy to unique, moderately complex business problems that may span multiple functions or sub-domains
  • Drive workshops independently with the business to understand their use cases and facilitate across relevant stakeholders for implementing solutions addressing the pain-points
  • Lead the implementation of data governance policies and procedures within the finance and controls domain
  • Lead data governance forums for effective oversight and desired outcomes
  • Take ownership of building the financial business metrics library with attribute enrichment and play the role of a lead finance data steward
  • Responsible for data source identification, controls monitoring, data quality frameworks and metadata management
  • Define and gather business functional data quality rules for core financial metrics
  • Support finance transformation and operational teams in data-centric initiatives, ensuring fast, frictionless access to trusted data
  • Optimize financial hierarchy and lead hierarchy enrichment/attribution initiatives
  • Understand downstream impacts and communicate data changes effectively
  • Influence other teams to adapt data governance processes and procedures

Who You Are

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Finance, Accounting, Computer Science, Management Information Systems or a related field. A Master's degree or a professional certification (e.g., CPA, CFA) is a plus
  • Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in a data stewardship or data analytics role preferably in the retail industry
  • Strong understanding of financial data by sub-domains including FP&A, Company Planning and Corporate Controls
  • Previous hands-on experience in data quality management and data governance tools like Collibra, Alation etc.
  • Knowledge of management reporting tools like Essbase and Anaplan
  • Familiarity with Oracle ERP modules including Oracle Enterprise Data Management (EDM)
  • Leadership presence with the ability to present in front of C-Suite
  • Ability to analyze data and extrapolate knowledge to make strong recommendations
