Two weeks ago, we shared a message to our colleagues in the Bay Area and NY addressing the uptick in violence against the Asian-American community within our backyards. Last week this violence hit closer to home, impacting one of our team members in NYC. Luckily, our colleague is doing well, but this racism, hatred, and violence against the AAPI community must stop, and at Gap Inc., we condemn all of it.
To support the AAPI communities, Gap Inc. and our brands will be donating a total of $100,000 to two community initiatives: Stop AAPI Hate and National Coalition for Asian Pacific American Community Development (CAPACD). Each organization uses its platforms to provide advocacy and deliver direct services to the most vulnerable AAPI community members. Also, we are working with each organization to build a long-term partnership with Gap Inc. to help support the AAPI community.
The most successful efforts in creating positive change begin by listening and learning. We will continue to provide Allies and Advocate Workshops and Safe Space Conversations to ensure that our communities have a place to come together with allies to express themselves and discuss how we can drive meaningful change together.
These are some of the ways we are continuing to double down on our commitments to this work, within our company, and within the communities we serve.
— Kisha Modica, Head of Equality and Belonging
