Gap Inc. Recognized as Industry Leader by Dow Jones Sustainability Index

At Gap Inc., we’re working hard to integrate sustainable practices and policies across our global business – and that hard work is being noticed. For the sixth year in a row, Gap Inc. has been recognized as an industry leader in global sustainability, according to the recently published Dow Jones Sustainability Index (DJSI). The DJSI World Index distinguishes the top 10 percent of companies in each industry out of more than 4,600 listed companies. Annually, we respond to this extensive benchmark on corporate Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) topics, which measures the performance of companies that build and implement programs focused on caring for the environment, protecting human rights and committing to strong internal management systems.
 
We operate in a fast-moving world, and to match global changes, the criteria for achieving leadership status continues to rise. Every year, we strive to continuously improve our transparency and sustainability practices, demonstrated through our programs such as designing for sustainability, supporting digital wage payments in our supply chain and Athleta’s certification as a B Corp. 
 
Notably, Gap Inc.’s programs on human rights earned top marks, ranking first among the 72 companies in our industry. This is supported by our longstanding commitment to improving the wellbeing of workers in the factories from which we source product, including our P.A.C.E. Program, which aims to provide life skills that empower women in manufacturing and community settings. Though we have earned inclusion on the DJSI for many years, a strengthened focus on timely reporting for social and environmental programs supports our annual placement as leader in these areas.
