Gap Inc.

May 31, 2017

More than the clothes we create, Gap Inc. is defined by its people. Our dedicated, eclectic, passionate culture is driven by pros, with personality. Say hello, get to know us, and take a closer look at what (and who) we’re made of. Meet some of the many people who make Gap Inc. great. #WeAreGapInc

We may as well just come right out and say it: We have, in our Gap Inc. family here, someone in possession of The Best Smile in the World (at least we think so) — though the owner of said smile will be quick to deny that claim, all the while smiling and confirming it further.

But Annie Carone is of course a whole lot more than her incredible beam. You might call her the resident reporter on the team working to transform and improve the way we make our products across the Gap Inc. family of brands globally, and it’s her job not only to understand and support those processes, but more importantly, to make that work a part of what we all live and breathe here at Gap Inc. It’s a tough job to say the least, but it’s no surprise that Annie is the one on the job, because much like her extraordinary smile, she has a knack for capturing your attention and getting her message across in a way that leaves you inspired.

Get to know Annie, her award-winning grin, and what makes this former NASA intern tick. Meet Annie.

WHAT DO YOU DO FOR GAP INC.?

Through storytelling, I communicate how our brands and functions are working differently to bring amazing product to our customers.

WHAT INSPIRES YOU?

Discovering new places — whether it’s a country halfway across the globe or a neighborhood 15 minutes from my home.

STYLE PERSONALITY

Honestly, I’m still trying to figure that out after moving from L.A. to the Bay! But I generally lean towards quality basics, and depend on accessories to add color and vibrancy.

GO-TO OUTFIT

Black leggings, booties, long sweater, and a chunky necklace.

ALL-TIME FAVORITE PIECE OF CLOTHING

A printed scarf that I bought in the Provence region of France. The pattern mixes orange, blue, brown, and white — colors I’d never think to put together.

LAST PURCHASE

Produce from the Berkeley Bowl (one of my favorite places).

WHAT YOU’VE LEARNED FROM CUSTOMERS

I love reading product reviews online. You can really see the ways in which clothing is such a personal investment to our customers.

FAVORITE GAP INC. MOMENT

Filming a BR store walk-through with SVP of Merchandising, Lexi Tawes — it was one of my first big projects and I loved hearing her talk about the intricate product development journey behind so many different pieces in the store.

FIRST JOB

Student admin clerk for the Head of Engineering Office at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory. Watching actual rocket scientists at work — especially during those Mars Rover launches and landings — was so inspiring, and taught me the importance of a strong work ethic. It was an invaluable start to my career, as I went on to spend my last two years of college in the Lab’s news room.

EPIPHANY MOMENT

During a recent trip to Bali, I befriended a young girl who asked what I did for work. When I mentioned Gap Inc., her response (“SOOO COOL!!!”) just reminded me how lucky I am to work for one of the most recognizable clothing brands in the world.

ALWAYS PUTS YOU IN A GOOD MOOD

Getting a killer deal on flights.

THEME SONG

Shake it Out by Florence + The Machine.

SOMETHING PEOPLE DON’T KNOW ABOUT YOU

My husband and I were born on the exact same day (but he’ll be quick to tell you I’m eight hours older).
