New York, August 31, 2010 – This Labor Day weekend, Banana Republic will be giving its modern professional customers a chance to win their annual salary, simply by walking through the doors of its stores across the U.S. and Canada.
In this first-of-its-kind sweepstakes for the brand, the grand prize winner will win up to $100,000 in a one-time payment. In advance of this sweepstakes, the company queried its fans on Facebook to see what they would do with such a windfall. Stress relief was a priority. 30% of respondents said they would pay down their debt and 32% said they would take off on a dream vacation.
Beginning Friday, September 3 and ending Monday, September 6, customers can walk into any one of Banana Republic’s U.S. and Canada stores* to receive a game piece which will award them 15%, 25%, or 50% off their purchases during the Labor Day Weekend. No purchase is necessary.
One grand prize winner will win a match of their annual salary up to $100,000, with a minimum payout of $50,000 even if they don’t have a salary. The minimum age for eligibility is 18.
“We are a brand that focuses on helping our customers look great at work,” said Jack Calhoun, President, Banana Republic. “In a tough economic climate, we wanted to celebrate Labor Day by doing something unique and offering one lucky customer a year’s salary.”
Banana Republic’s Facebook fan poll asked how a winner would use their winnings. Respondents indicated that they would:
- Quit my job, turn off my alarm and sleep in for a year: 3%
- Stockpile the cash, change nothing: 14%
- Buy an expensive new toy: 1%
- Pay off personal debts: 30%
- Start my own company: 11%
- Help a friend, family member or charity: 7%
- Take a dream vacation: 32%
