About the Role

Gap Inc. is seeking a visionary and strategic Director of Compensation to lead the development and execution of global compensation strategies that support our field employees across Old Navy, Gap, Banana Republic, and Athleta stores, as well as our distribution centers (DCs), call centers (CCs), and franchise locations (FSAL). This pivotal role is instrumental in ensuring our compensation programs are competitive, equitable, and aligned with our mission to be a high-performing house of iconic American brands that shape culture.

In this influential role, you’ll bring deep technical expertise and a passion for data-informed decision-making, while championing the needs of our front-line teams. You’ll lead with a growth mindset, foster inclusivity, and collaborate across functions and brands to deliver innovative, customer-centered solutions at scale. By partnering closely with Human Resources and Brand Leadership, you’ll shape a holistic and meaningful Total Rewards experience that reflects our purpose-driven culture and empowers our people to thrive

What You'll Do

Lead the development and execution of compensation strategies for Gap Inc.’s field workforce across all brands
Design and implement compensation programs tailored to front-line employees, including hourly pay structures and incentive plans
Ensure compensation programs are competitive, equitable, and aligned with brand-specific priorities, labor market trends, and global regulatory requirements
Partner with Total Rewards leadership to integrate compensation into a holistic employee experience
Collaborate cross-functionally with Legal, Finance, Labor Relations, and HR Operations to uphold compliance and operational excellence
Continuously improve compensation systems and processes with agility, curiosity, and a growth mindset
Develop and deliver training and communication materials tailored to store, DC/CC, and brand audiences
Lead with integrity and empathy, solving for employee needs while prioritizing deep care and positive experiences
Champion excellence, empower others, and drive purpose-driven leadership across the retail
organization
Seek diverse perspectives and challenge assumptions to promote equity and cultural relevance
Present key findings, insights, and recommendations to executive leadership to inform Total Rewards strategies

Who You Are

Demonstrated success designing and implementing compensation programs for a diverse, distributed retail workforce
Built strong partnerships with HR Business Partners, Finance, Talent Acquisition, and Field Leadership to support workforce planning and retention
Collaborated with Senior Leaders to ensure compensation programs reflect brand identity and integrate into broader Total Rewards offerings
Conducted market benchmarking using retail-specific data to ensure pay competitiveness across field roles
Translated external labor trends and internal analytics into actionable insights to drive equity and cultural relevance
Leveraged Workday for configuration, reporting, and administration of compensation programs; proficient in Microsoft Office
Maintained compliance with wage transparency, pay equity, and labor regulations across operational roles
Presented insights and recommendations to executive leadership to inform Total Rewards strategy
Exceptional communication, organizational agility, and systems thinking, with the ability to manage and navigate complexity
Minimum 10 years of compensation experience in a large, matrixed organization

Salary Range: $156,800 - $221,700 USD
Employee pay will vary based on factors such as qualifications, experience, skill level, competencies and work location. We will meet minimum wage or minimum of the pay range (whichever is higher) based on city, county and state requirements.
