In response to the widespread damage and devastation caused by a series of tornadoes in the Midwest and Southeast U.S. this month, Gap Foundation will make a $100,000 donation to the Center for Disaster Philanthropy (CDP). As a recognized leader in disaster recovery, CDP prioritizes medium to long-term recovery and is focused on meeting the needs of populations marginalized by systemic inequities. Gap Foundation thoughtfully partnered with CDP to aid the physical, emotional and economic recovery of individuals and families impacted by this natural disaster.
2021 Tornado Disaster
Reports indicate at least 30 tornadoes, with speeds of up to 165 mph, caused severe damage, power outages and more than 90 deaths across the Midwest and Southeast U.S. this month. CDP’s funds and expert resources help donors ensure their support will help survivors and their communities build back stronger.
Helping Gap Inc. Employees
While we have confirmed there was no significant impact to our teams or facilities, the Selvage Fund, in partnership with E4E Relief, is available to support our employees in the impacted areas if necessary.
Named after the tightly woven edge of a fabric that prevents it from unraveling or fraying, the Selvage Fund was created to support Gap Inc. employees in times of need. The Selvage Fund provides cash grants to qualifying Gap Inc. employees in the US & Canada who need financial support due to an IRS qualifying disaster.
Since its launch in May 2020, the fund has made over 1,950 grants in response to the COVID-19 crisis and major natural disasters and awarded more than $1.1M to Gap Inc. employees in need. Gap Inc. employees who wish to support colleagues in need can make a tax-deductible contribution to the Selvage Fund at selvagefund.e4erelief.org
