As one of the world's leading apparel retailers, we recognize that we contribute to and have the opportunity to address systemic social and environmental challenges. That’s why we joined the UN Global Compact in 2003 and have aligned our sustainability strategy with the United Nations global sustainable development agenda, including frameworks such as the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights, the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the Paris Agreement on climate change. Using the global agenda as our guide, we’re proud to announce that we joined the Business Call to Action (BCtA) to further our commitment to empowering women by building their technical, social and financial management skills.

For 50 years, we have stood for equality. As part of this long-held commitment, in 2007, we started P.A.C.E. (Personal Advancement & Career Enhancement) founded on the belief that all women deserve the opportunity to reach their full potential. Although women represent about 80% of garment workers worldwide, relatively few advance to higher-level positions, and many lack access to the education and skills training they need to support their personal and professional growth. P.A.C.E. provides foundational life skills and technical training with proven results, like improved communication skills, confidence and self-esteem.

Hosted by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the BCtA is an independent alliance that challenges companies to develop inclusive business models, like P.A.C.E. This is just one of the ways we are doing our part to meet our business objectives, support the people who make our products and advance the UN’s global goals.
