Shot in the historic Graham Court apartment building, DAP GAP returns with a new original collection that ignites the spirit of Harlem and today’s urban cowboy
NEW YORK, NY — February 7, 2024:
Gap and Dapper Dan announced their new spring collection — expanding from sweats into new product categories featuring head-to-toe western denim looks inspired by the original cowboy. The 22-piece capsule has evolved from previous collections, allowing customers to access a broader spectrum of the fashion innovator's logomanic universe through Gap’s iconic product styles and textiles.
The collection is captured in the latest DAP GAP 2-minute film shot by Ghanian-American creative photographer Joshua Kissi, featuring the many faces of the community who live in Harlem’s historic Graham Court apartment building. View the film here.
The DAP GAP logo hoodie, which started the brand’s beloved two-year long partnership of championing originality with Dapper Dan, continues to be at the heart of the collaboration and is now available in four new colorways. It’s Dapper Dan’s mission to destigmatize the hoodies in the community that inspires him most, reclaiming it as a symbol of the shifting views in clothing and brand identity in culture today.
“At certain points in history, the hoodie had been used to represent the dark side of our culture, so this partnership with Gap presents it in a way that shows you can wear a hoodie and be fly, be international, and elegant,” said Dapper Dan. “This new installation also symbolizes universal love and unity. You’ll see every single piece of this collection was created with love and intention down to the updated logo stitched inside each garment. We are in the present preparing for the future because this brand, this collaboration, is about bringing everybody together. We were some of the original cowboys. But we are also the faces of the world to come — we are the urban cowboys.”
Alongside the four new logo hoodies, the DAP GAP spring capsule takes this collaboration to new heights with styles in different product categories, including a denim kimono jacket, a Western-style denim button-down shirt, an embroidered cotton Oxford shirt, and a houndstooth icon denim jean jacket with matching straight fit pants. The collection also includes two GapKids DAP GAP hoodies and a babyGap Brannan Bear styled in its very own DAP × GAP hoodie. This is the brand’s biggest collection with Dapper Dan to date, available in sizes that range from kids’ size 8 to adult XXXL and retails from $25 to $158.
The DAP GAP capsule will be available to shop in seven stores nationwide and on gap.com on February 9 at 9 a.m. PT / 12 p.m. ET. Stores that will carry the collection are in NYC at Times Square, 85th & 3rd, Bay Plaza in the Bronx, and Gap Outlet at 125th Street in Harlem; in San Francisco at 2 Folsom; in Los Angeles at Gap Grove; and in Washington, DC, at Tyson's Corner Center.
