Gap Inc.

dicembre 1, 2020

On December 1, GivingTuesday kicks off its annual movement, encouraging people and organizations to do good. Its mission to celebrate generosity is felt worldwide, and while our brands are generally known for providing the gifts that our customers give, we’re also passionate about being gift-givers ourselves—making a lasting and impactful difference in the communities we serve.

This year, Gap Inc. plans to match contributions to the Selvage Fund dollar for dollar between now and December 31, 2020. Launched this past June in response to the pandemic, the Selvage Fund supports our employees when they need it most—from helping with expenses stemming from critical medical needs and evacuations, to even basics like food, utilities, and childcare. To date, the Selvage Fund has issued over 1,600 grants to Gap Inc employees, worth more than $840,000.

Our brands have also found unique ways to get involved this GivingTuesday. Here are the ways they're participating:

Old Navy

Old Navy is ringing in the season by donating $10.00 USD for every curbside or Buy Online, Pick-up in Store (BOPIS) purchase made, with a goal of reaching $1 million for This Way Onward. The donation will support career opportunities for underserved youth and help provide jobs for up to 20,000 young people by 2025!

Athleta

Athleta is launching an exclusive mask on GivingTuesday designed in collaboration with VPL, an innovative and sustainability-minded company run by women for women. From December 1 through January 31, 2021, all mask sales will be donated to Fashion Girls for Humanity, a non-profit providing PPE to communities in need during COVID. Additionally, select stores will host “Shop For A Cause” events, where 10% of event sales will be donated (up to $500) to a local organization of their choice that fuels confidence in women and girls through movement and connection.

Gap

From now until December 31, Gap is hosting a TikTok dance challenge to raise funds for GivingTuesday. Gap invites fans to recreate a routine choreographed by TikTok mover and shaker Andre Swilley set to the anthem of Gap’s “Dream the Future” campaign, “Dream Baby Dream.”

As part of the dance, share in one word a dream, wish, or feeling you want to send out to the universe using the hashtag #SHARETHEGAPDREAM. For every video posted to TikTok between now and December 31, Gap will donate $10.00 USD to Boys & Girls Clubs of America (up to $50K).

Getting in on the action is Steve Kornacki, who famously wore Gap’s khakis while commentating on this year’s election, Kornacki celebrated GivingTuesday with a donation announcement made live on MSNBC.  The donation of roughly 500 khakis, a value of $30,000, is made in Kornacki’s name and benefits the Boys & Girls Club of America Workforce Readiness Program. Kornaki also encouraged viewers to participate in the dance challenge.

Banana Republic

During the holiday season, Banana Republic continues its pledge to work for a Better Republic by supporting those in need.  On GivingTuesday, Banana Republic will donate $10 from the sale of every sweater, up to $25,000, to Feeding America—adding to the more than $220,000 the brand has raised for the organization since May 2020. Banana Republic will also contribute to the organization with sales of its reusable face masks benefitting Feeding America’s Covid-19 Response Fund.

Janie and Jack

On GivingTuesday, Janie and Jack is donating $7,500 to a very special organization, Brown Girls Do Ballet, whose mission is to increase participation of underrepresented populations in ballet programs through organizing performances, photo exhibitions, and providing resources and scholarships to assist young girls in their ballet development and training.

Intermix

Intermix knows that now more than ever, brands should be giving back. This year, increasing numbers of families are struggling to meet their needs. To help, on GivingTuesday, Intermix plans to donate 1% of net sales to Baby2Baby, an incredible non-profit providing children living in poverty, ages 0-12 years, with diapers, clothing, and all the necessities that every child deserves.
