Today's verdict on the murder trial of ex-police officer Derek Chauvin for the death of George Floyd comes when the nation is grappling over the mounting loss of innocent lives at the hands of racial injustice, from Trayvon Martin to Eric Garner, Breonna Taylor, and most recently Daunte Wright and Adam Toledo. The decision made by the jury today confirms that with sustained attention and pressure, our nation can hold people accountable for their actions.
We understand that many of you are experiencing an extensive range of emotions as we process today’s outcome—and the cultural reckoning occurring across our society and teams. Please take this time to check in with your colleagues, give each other support, and show empathy for the feelings we are all going through. Let us act upon our Words to Live By, by doing the right thing for each other and for our customers. Succeeding at allyship means doing what you can to contribute to and create a culture where fairness, respect and mindfulness are the rule, not the exception.
