About the Role

The Inventory Analytics team at Gap Inc. applies techniques from machine learning, operations research, and data analysis to drive business benefits for Gap Inc. and its brands. The team’s focus is creating analytical capabilities that match supply and demand in order to support inventory management at Gap Inc. Areas of expertise include: demand forecasting, inventory replenishment, pricing, assortment, inventory and supply chain optimization, product testing, and sizing.

We are seeking a data science leader to join the team.

What You'll Do

  • Lead a data science team that builds, validates, and maintains Machine Learning and Operations Research models that support the buying, pricing or movement of inventory
  • Partner cross functionally with IT and product teams to deliver large data science initiatives for the company
  • Synthesize findings, prepare presentations and assist in presenting findings to all levels of management
  • Manage and coach a team of data scientists and oversee their day to day work that includes manipulating and cleansing large data sets, building models and measuring model performance
  • Create roadmaps to identify biggest opportunities for analytics to drive value for the company

Who You Are

  • 6+ years of work experience in data science domain, ideally in retail supply chain or inventory domain
  • 2+ years of people management
  • Experience delivering large data science initiatives built at scale
  • Ability to connect business problems to techniques from advanced analytics and machine learning
  • Experience with ML and classical predictive techniques such as logistic regression, decision trees, boosted trees, non-linear regressions, ANN/CNN, SVM, Ensembles, Tensorflow, visualization packages, and a track record for creating business impact with these methods.
  • Experience with inventory or price optimization and A/B testing.
  • Excellent analytic and critical thinking, combined with strong written and verbal communication skills, with a demonstrated appetite for relationship building
