About the role

Every summer, we invite talented rising seniors to join us for a challenging, hands-on experience in the retail industry. The ten-week Summer Intern Program is based in San Francisco.

The Summer Internship Program combines meaningful work experiences with exposure to different areas of our business to give interns a unique opportunity to expand their knowledge of the retail industry and determine whether they would like to pursue a career at Gap Inc. after graduation. As an intern, you will get to meet our senior executives and leaders. You will work on impactful projects and you will have the opportunity to present to senior management. We invite you to participate in events, such as hanging out at a baseball game, happy hours, local excursions, volunteering in the community, etc.

What you'll do

  • As a member of our User Experience Team @Gap you’ll experience and drive scale, impact and innovation. As one of the largest multi-branded global retailers, we’re amongst the handful of competitors who can – and must – be at the forefront of great digital experiences to thrive. We have a proprietary digital engine, integrated with a set of industry leading third parties, that helps drive a strong customer experience and is core to our customer strategy.
  • As an intern, you will be a visual designer and skilled interaction professional. You will work with cross functional partners to improve the user experience across Gap, Old Navy, Banana Republic, and Athleta.
  • You will work across multiple areas of UX, pitching in across our entire ecosystem from stores to app to site. You should demonstrate interaction and visual design skills and be able to collaborate with a dynamic team across multiple touchpoints.
  • You will own specific concept designs and process flows and help guide test and learn design sprints alongside other UX designers on your team. Including but not limited to the following:
    • Develop conceptual diagrams, wireframes, visual mockups, click-throughs, and prototypes
    • Use business requirements, user and market research to assist in developing scenarios, use cases, and concepts.
    • Be a member of workshops and design sprints with project teams and stakeholders to explore problem spaces, identify new opportunities and create alignment.
    • Be a passionate and effective advocate for design with non-design audiences.
    • Take direction from Sr UX designers on the team, while furthering your own design and communication skills.

Who you are

  • You have 6-12 months of UX coursework or experience
  • You are pursuing your Bachelor's Degree in User Experience, Design, or Art with one year left to graduate (between December 2022 - Summer 2023)
  • You live and breathe lean design methodology, design thinking and experimentation.
  • You think about design in your spare time and are naturally curious about better ways to do things.
  • You demonstrate that you deeply care for the craft and has an impeccable attention for details, while distilling the design components and patterns to compose a system.
