About the role

A role of an Engineering Manager in a Gap Inc. distribution or fulfillment center is responsible for providing engineering services to the Distribution Center (DC) through intensive and diversified knowledge of industrial engineering principles and practices. While managing a team of Industrial Engineers and support staff, the DC Engineering Manager oversees major projects to that align processes across the campus and the greater network within Gap Inc. Logistics.

What you'll do

  • Analyze processes and standards, identify best practices, benchmarks and areas for improvement to balance cost, service and productivity. Own the implementation of proposed changes to improve results. Assess new technology through testing.
  • Conduct analyses of current designs; design and propose new layouts. Acts as local project manager and subject matter expert for all material handling modifications and related work. Assist DC Management on special projects by conducting feasibility studies and use of conventional time study techniques.
  • Maximize asset utilization through the creation and implementation of new procedures and initiatives. Manage the purchasing and maintenance of campus equipment as necessary. Coordinate priority list with operations and conduct approval and training meetings with operation’s personnel.
  • Experience with design and management of facility construction projects.
  • Develop appropriate budgets for the Engineering department and facility.

Who you are

  • Strong team leader with the ability to influence and build working relationships at all levels.
  • Excellent focus on customers with the ability distinguish between urgent and important priorities.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Previous management of highly visible projects – leading to strong project management skills.
  • Experience with time and motion standards systems (MOST).
  • Experience with Six Sigma or Lean Practices a plus.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Industrial or Mechanical Engineering. Advanced degree preferred.
  • 5 years of Engineering experience, Industrial Engineering preferred.
  • 3 to 5 years managing and developing teams.
