Employee Engagement Programs

We believe that any amount of volunteering can have an impact. We support our employees by running a number of programs to make it easy to volunteer in areas they feel passionate about. In 2006, our employees contributed more than $2.6 million to nonprofits, and devoted over 219,000 hours to a wide variety of projects, from painting fences at a local school to counseling low-income women on starting their own businesses.

Money for Time

For every 15 hours a Gap Inc. employee volunteers with a single organization during the calendar year, Gap Foundation will donate $150 to that organization in recognition of the employee's commitment. Gap Foundation also supports the financial contributions our employees make to qualifying nonprofit organizations through our matching gifts program.

Take Five

We recognize that the needs of our community partners aren't on a 9-to-5 schedule; and we realize it's sometimes hard for people to find time to volunteer given their already busy lives. So, through the Take Five program, Gap Foundation encourages headquarters employees to take up to five paid work hours each month to volunteer.

'In Action' Days

Gap Foundation organizes various "In Action" days for all headquarters employees. These special volunteer events give employees a half day out of the office and in the community, providing a range of team and individual volunteer opportunities.

Field Team Grant Program

Launched in North American stores in the Fall of 2006, this program promotes volunteer efforts among store employees. We offer $250 grants to nonprofits when teams of three or more employees from our stores volunteer 25 hours in support of underserved youth and women.

Holiday Adopt-a-Family Program

For many families, the holiday season does not bring the abundant gifts and happy celebrations that so many of us enjoy. Each year, through our Adopt-a-Family program, Gap Foundation teams with local nonprofits and all Gap Inc. stores and offices in North America and the United Kingdom to make the holidays a little brighter for families in need. In 2006, we supported over 4,000 families.

Community Corps

Through our unique Community Corps program, we recognize our most dedicated employee volunteers by sending them to sites throughout the United States and Central America to build homes for underserved families in partnership with Habitat for Humanity International. 

Founders' Award

The Founders' Award honors a Gap Inc. employee's outstanding volunteer efforts by providing a grant of up to $50,000 to a nonprofit or non-governmental organization that supports a cause in which they've been involved. The winner also receives up to 80 hours of paid time off to work with the organization.
