GAP OPENS NEWLY RE-DESIGNED STORES IN COLORADO

Colorado Customers First to Experience New Store Design and Enhanced Customer Experience

SAN FRANCISCO April 22, 2005 − Gap today announces the opening of seven completely re-designed stores in Colorado. The new store design and revamped shopping experience are part of the ongoing evolution of the Gap brand.

"Since Gap was founded in 1969, we've evolved the brand to meet our customer's needs,"said Lee Bird, Chief Operating Officer of Gap. That's one of the hallmarks of a great brand − the ability to anticipate and innovate to meet the changing needs and lifestyles of its customers. The new stores in Denver are just the latest example."

The seven Denver metro area stores closed in January 2005 to undergo a complete transformation. Everything from the layout and fixtures to floors and lighting has been re-designed to create an easy, dynamic shopping experience for customers. Dark-stained wooden floors, track lighting, wooden bookcases and a new lounge are just a few elements of the interior renovations. A white room showcases seasonal accessories while a separate denim bar offers an array of jeans options for men and women in simple, clean displays. Distinct sections of the store for men and women include separate fitting rooms with additional lounge areas. From style consultants to a denim advice bar, Gap has created a more personal shopping experience for Colorado customers.

To celebrate the new store openings, Gap is hosting an intimate concert featuring Grammy-nominated band Counting Crows on April 22 at 9:30 p.m. at the Paramount Theatre. The morning of April 22, opening day for the new Gap stores, the first 100 customers at each of Gap’s Denver-area locations will receive two tickets for this exclusive show.

While Gap's Denver area stores were closed, the company created "Colorado in Action," a volunteer program to further connect employees to the community while fostering team-building and communication skills. Approximately 400 Gap store employees volunteered at more than 40 non-profit organizations throughout the Denver community over a ten-week period – logging more than 10,000 hours in community service. Through the program, employees were instrumental in community improvement efforts including rebuilding homes, distributing food and clothing to people in need and tutoring children at local youth centers in the Denver area.

Also, Gap recently invited Colorado residents to join in local community support efforts by donating clothing to their local Goodwill. On April 14, Denver Post subscribers received a Goodwill bag with their morning paper, courtesy of Gap, encouraging them to clean out their closets and donate clothing to Goodwill.

To communicate to Colorado customers about how Gap stores have changed, Gap created a local marketing campaign that included outdoor billboards and bus sides, direct mail and guerilla marketing. The campaign tagline, "Change. It feels good" communicates the evolution of the newly designed stores and customer shopping experience in Colorado. The campaign was developed by Crispin Porter + Bogusky.

The following locations will reopen at 10 a.m. on April 22. Gap invites customers to visit any of these locations to see how stores have changed and for a chance to win free tickets to see the Counting Crows perform on April 22 at 9:30 p.m. at the Paramount Theater:
