GAP INTRODUCES PETITE & TALL SIZES FOR WOMEN

New Sizes Available Exclusively at gap.com

SAN FRANCISCO – January 17, 2006 – For female shoppers who fall into the 5’4” and under or 5’11” and over category, finding clothes that fit and are fashionable has been a frustrating chore…until now. This month, Gap introduces the debut of petite and tall sizes for women, available exclusively at gap.com and designed to fit petite and tall women perfectly.

“Petite and tall female consumers have traditionally been underserved by the apparel market, particularly women looking for casual styles,” said Felix Carbullido, vice president and general manager of gap.com. “We’re excited to introduce petite and tall sizes to better meet consumers’ needs and offer them Gap’s great casual styles in sizes that will fit them better than ever.”

The new petite and tall product offering mirrors the design and styles of the Gap women’s line. Gap has simply taken customers’ favorite Gap styles and adjusted the proportions to fit petite and tall women perfectly. Now, petite and tall women who love Gap clothes and the Gap brand aesthetic can find them in sizes that are specifically tailored to meet their needs.

Gap.com’s new petite sizes are designed for women 5’4” and under − sizing is based on height, not weight − and proportioned to fit every aspect of a petite woman’s body. Petite sizes are available in xsp – xlp in tops and 0p through 16p in bottoms. Several product alterations are made to Gap’s regular sized clothes in order to make perfect petite sized clothes. 

•	Shirts and outerwear are narrowed in the shoulders, armholes are higher, the body is smaller and shorter in length, and sleeve lengths are shorter.
•	Jeans and pants have a shortened rise, narrowed hips and waist, and a 29” inseam.
•	Skirts are narrowed in the hips, made two inches shorter in length and scaled to maintain the garment’s true silhouette.

To create the perfect tall sizes for women, Gap took a similar approach. Tall sizes are designed for women 5’11” and above – and like petite sizes, tall sizes are based on height, not weight. Tall sizes are available in STall – XLTall in tops and 2t through 16t for bottoms. Regular sized Gap clothes are made longer to accommodate taller women and additional product alterations are made: 

•	Shirts have lower arm openings, longer darts, longer sleeves and longer body lengths.
•	Jeans and pants have a longer rise, a 36” inseam and the fit is scaled to maintain the garment’s true silhouette.
•	Skirts are two inches longer in length
•	Sweaters and knits have a longer body and two inch longer sleeves.
