GAP HELPS CUSTOMERS GIVE THE FAVORITE GIFTS OF THE SEASON
SAN FRANCISCO – November 14, 2005 – “It’s my favorite gift” is
what everyone wants to hear when giving holiday presents to loved ones. This
holiday season Gap will make it easy for customers to find the best gifts and
add creative flair to ensure their gifts will be favorites. By providing
shoppers with items, ideas and inspiration, Gap is encouraging customers to
think of gift giving in a whole new way this year.
“Our goal this holiday season is to help our customers give the most special
gifts possible,” said Jeff Jones, executive vice president, Gap Marketing.
“This holiday, not only does Gap have countless gifts for everyone on your
list, we also have great ideas and tools to help make those gifts more
personal, memorable and uniquely yours.”
To ensure every Gap customer knows how to give a favorite gift, Gap created a
comprehensive, integrated holiday campaign focused on this theme. As part of
the campaign, there will be three main elements: an innovative microsite, an
instant messaging robot called “ShoppingBuddy” on the AOL’s AIM® service, as
well as a helpful gift guide and personalized photo gift cards. These are
just a few of the campaign elements that will make gift giving easier than
ever this holiday.
Gap’s holiday microsite, www.gap.com/howtogive, features great gift ideas and
creative tools to make the holidays fun and interactive. Customers can
download a special holiday ringtone, a full-length version of Macy Gray’s
rendition of “Winter Wonderland,” as well as tools for making personalized CD
labels, gift coupons and more. You can even start an online snowball fight by
sending your friends an email snowball.
If you’re looking for a holiday shopping buddy and can’t find one – Gap and
AOL will gladly join you. Gap will be the first retailer to have branded
integration on the new AIM ShoppingBuddy bot. Beginning November 16, more
than 43 million AIM users will be able to ask the AIM ShoppingBuddy for
holiday gift ideas. By sending an instant message to the AIM® Screen Name:
ShoppingBuddy, AIM users will receive gifting ideas from the Gap holiday gift
finder. In addition, Gap will have advertising placement on AIM® Today and on
the AIM® Buddy List.
Gap’s gift guide titled How to Give a Favorite Gift also provides
helpful gifting tips for holiday. The 32-page “magalog,” which is part idea
source and part catalog, features a range of great gifts and dozens of clever
ideas for making them more thoughtful.
There are more than 100 ideas highlighted in the “magalog,” including tips for
making gift cards more unique. Gap will be the first retailer to offer
personalized photo gift cards in stores this holiday. The guide also contains
ideas for making customized holiday greeting cards, creative ways to wrap a
gift and countless thoughts for adding special touches to make gifts more
personal. From the winning combination of a lottery ticket hidden in the
pocket of a hobo bag, to a heartfelt CD of favorite songs wrapped up in a
striped scarf, you’ll find endless gift giving ideas in Gap’s holiday guide.
Beginning in early November, the “Favorites” gift guide will be distributed
through a variety of communications channels. Multiple page inserts and
spreads will appear in magazines including InStyle, Real Simple
and Lucky, and newspapers such as the New York Times Style
Section.
By partnering with recognized brands like Kodak, Borders Books & Music,
Waldenbooks and AOL, Gap will be able to reach customers this holiday in new,
exciting ways. Customers who purchase photos and products at kodakgallery.com
will receive a Gap “Favorites” gift guide in their package. Visitors at
Kodak-operated Santa Meet & Greets (in more than 60 malls throughout the
country) who stand in line to meet Santa will get a gift guide along with
their Kodak photo. Plus, be sure to look for the exclusive Gap Favorites
photo book, featuring your own photos and captions in a hardbound book,
available for purchase only at kodakgallery.com. Additionally, the
“Favorites” gift guide will be available on newsstands at Borders and
Waldenbooks stores from November 22 – December 12 (while supplies last).
