Describe a typical day for you at work.
As an M.B.A. intern
working with Gap Foundation, I usually spend part of each day in project team
meetings that include people from different functions throughout the company.
I spend the majority of my time doing research, interviewing or getting
feedback from people, and conducting analysis for my recommendations. The mix
of activities varies by project and by day, which keeps things interesting.
What do you like about Gap Inc.?
I have found the culture here
to be exceptional. The environment is collaborative, and people at all levels
of the company have been enthusiastic about contributing to my projects. I
have also benefited from coaching and mentoring from a number of people.
Another thing I really like about the company is that it is committed to
innovation. I was impressed to see such a large organization actively
embracing change, and I experienced it myself when I saw how eager people were
about implementing recommendations from my projects.
What do you like about living in the Bay Area?
The Bay Area has
such an incredibly active and youthful culture. Living here, you get all the
benefits of having access to a major city, plus everything you could want from
the outdoors — surfing, skiing, hiking and more. Of course, there is also the
beauty of the bay itself — which San Francisco headquarters employees get to
enjoy every day, as the offices are right on the waterfront.
What does the future hold for you?
My summer experience has
given me a lot to think about — I'm not yet sure what I want to do right after
graduation. I was able to get exposure to many parts of Gap Inc.'s business,
and that has given me a lot of ideas about what I could do in the future. I'm
glad that I gained so much perspective from the internship because it will
help me make better career choices. In the meantime, I'm eager to head back to
school and enjoy my last year.
